In collaboration with the Green Earth, a Hong Kong green group, 28 staff of Veolia operations in Hong Kong and their families partaken the beach clean up activity on 28 September 2019. To start with, the Green Earth conducted a briefing on how modern lifestyle has generated various types of waste, and how these waste travelled afar from other countries to arrive Hong Kong’s beaches. Despite the bright sunshine and sweat, the hardworking team has picked up a total of 150kg of waste, which includes bulky items like surfing board, tyres, plastic bottles as well as fishing tools. The more the team searched and dug deep, the more plastic fragments, bottles and caps of bottles were found. Some of the plastic bottles found even wrapped with package in foreign languages.
Plastic bottles collected were then separated, classified as according to the origin and counted. Data collected will contribute to a survey of the Green Earth for further advocacy and public education purpose.
Colleagues enjoyed the event and pledge their commitment in protecting the beautiful nature of Hong Kong. The beach clean up activity is one of the continuous efforts of Veolia Hong Kong and The Green Earth in raising staff awareness on environmental protection.
